Soulforce Awakening by Mansukh Patel

In his book, Awakening Soulforce, Mansukh Patel describes how he, like many of us, has always seen Mahatma Gandhi as his hero and that Gandhi’s life was guided by a very simple talisman which was simply this: whenever he was about to do something he would first think of the poorest person he had ever seen, imagine their face and then ask himself if what he was about to do would benefit that person. If not, he simply would not act. The effect of this resolve, says Mansukh, was that everything he did was fired and motivated by his great desire to benefit others’ lives through his actions.

Mansukh’s feeling is that the result of Gandhi living by this principle was that he was able to free over 350 million people from 300 years of foreign rule. Traditionally a talisman is said to be a stone that is imbibed with a magical power, but as Gandhi demonstrated, a talisman can equally be a resolution or unshakeable conviction that carries power.

Mansukh Patel believes that Gandhi was probably the most important man of the twentieth century because he demonstrated over and over again throughout his life that peace can be very practical. He always maintained that the secret of his indestructible satyagraha movement lay in the power of their soulforce – a force which lies dormant within each one of us.

In Soulforce Awakening, Mansukh aims to help people understand and discover this power – to rise above self-imposed limitations and reach their true greatness. This is not a small aspiration and wherever Mansukh is, and whatever he is doing, he is always thinking about different ways to encourage people to achieve this.

As he says in the book, we are continually confronted by a suffering humanity which is desperately seeking solutions. Mansukh especially feels the plight of our younger generation that is deeply seeking a way to find real and lasting fulfilment. By the grace of Gandhi’s example and the effort of his parents, Mansukh has been endowed with the scientific and spiritual knowledge that can really help others and he uses this grace to great effect everywhere he goes.

Mansukh believes, as Gandhi did, that it is only when this soulforce is awakened within us that we can find the ultimate sense of fulfilment we all seek. Whether you are dealing with personal trauma in your family or the mass murder of war, ultimately this knowledge of soulforce is the greatest gift that has been given to us in the last hundred years. Now, says Mansukh, we need to take it into the third millennium and live it.

Mansukh Patel, together with three of his colleagues, Savitri MacCuish, Peter Legge and Andrew Wells, was called out to teach de-traumatisation techniques to a group of forty five child psychologists and counsellors who were working inside a war zone. As with much of their work, Mansukh could not say where it was. In such sensitive areas, says Mansukh, it is vital to maintain neutrality so that all sides can be helped in their efforts to regain peace.

Mansukh was staying in an old sanatorium which had been built on the edge of the sea, some distance from the scene of conflict. This gave the participants a welcome break from their homelands constant reminders of war, especially those who were living close to the violence. Mansukh’s group members were all working with badly traumatised children, desperately seeking to help them to heal the emotional scars of war. Even now, as often as two or three times a week as they travel in to work with the children, they have to stop and dive to the ground because of the sudden eruption of a shoot-out. As Mansukh says, we cannot even imagine what it might be like to live like this.

At any moment, they can be stopped and questioned by the military and if they are young men there is a thirty percent chance they will be taken away and beaten – or worse.

Mansukh observed that these were people living on the edge, but with a tremendous sense of dignity. They were desperately trying to deal with their own personal trauma as well as help the children and their countrymen. Mansukh was impressed by how well they had managed to keep their spirits up and maintain their sanity under circumstances that would have destroyed most ordinary people. At the same time he could feel a subtle tension hiding behind their laughter. Mansukh and team had worked with them on many occasions and knew how much the Dru Yoga techniques they had learnt had helped them cope with their trauma. On this occasion however, Mansukh felt they needed a deeper element to rekindle their hope and enthusiasm in the face of their waning strength.

Mansukh and team only had a few days and they soon realised that nothing less than the power of soulforce was going to work for these people. Mansukh’s parents were custodians of an indigenous tradition known as Dru Yoga. Mansukh now had to draw upon this tradition in a much deeper way to create a model that would work for these people.

The book, Soulforce Awakening, then goes on to present how Mansukh invited participants to practise the Dru Yoga technique entitled The Golden Eagle Sequence and the stunning results it gave them.

Now, this method is available for you, tailored for modern living by the use of 24 Soulforce Talismans.

Here are the first five of Mansukh Patel’s Soulforce Talismans

  1. Keep a constant yearning to be awake and fulfilled.
  2. Live your life with power and courage so that others are inspired to do the same.
  3. Always follow the bidding of your heart.
  4. The most important place is here, the most important time is now, the most important person is the one in front of you.
  5. If you are always giving, you need time to restore and replenish your own body and soul- rest in nature and silence.
